The Richard J. O’Brien Foundation was formed to honor the memory of Rich O’Brien, who passed away in September 2010. Rich was actively involved with many non-profit organizations on Long Island and always gave generously of his time – especially to organizations benefitting children and their families.

The Foundation was organized by Rich’s family and friends to continue to support charities focusing on children in need of special care and bereavement counseling and other services. The Foundation also supports organizations dealing with children’s health issues. Through May 2024, the Foundation has donated over $650,000 to various children’s charities.

All of the Foundation’s work is carried out by volunteers.

This corporation is a charitable organization which provides financial donations to benefit individuals and families who have lost a parent, and provide financial donations to other charitable organizations that are deemed in need by the Board of Directors, in the memory of Richard J. O’Brien.
